The Wise Old Tutor was founded by Jonathan E. Brill, Ph.D., a professional educator, former businessman, and pioneer in the development of automated instructional technologies.
In 2002, Dr. Brill founded Test Mastery Systems, Inc. with the goal of creating the world’s first interactive and adaptive automated web-based tutoring application. His objective was realized in 2003 with the release of the TMS Learning LabTM, an application designed to help students interested in improving their performances in high school exit exams and other high stakes standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT. The Learning LabTM was quick to earn praise from nationally recognized educational experts and was endorsed by the leadership of the National Board of Educational Testing and Policy for delivering high quality, effective tutoring in English Language Arts and Mathematics subjects and making this resource affordable to virtually all students.
Dr. Brill is a licensed middle school and high school mathematics teacher who has been certified by the Massachusetts Department of Education under license number 387011. He has taught math to students in grades 6 through 12 as a public school teacher and students ranging in age from 8 to 22 as an instructor with the Mathnasium® franchise. In addition, he is a highly trained SAT & ACT prep tutor who associated with well-known test prep companies, including Sylvan In Home and StudyPoint.
In addition to tutoring students enrolled in grade schools and colleges, Dr. Brill now teaches part-time as an adjunct faculty member in the business schools at Rider University and Georgian Court University, where he has been teaching courses in research methods & data analysis, introductory marketing, and advertising & public relations.
